How Help the Children has helped 13yr old Justin

Justin Ow

13 years old Justin lives in a 2-room rental flat with his mother, who works as a cleaner. Justin’s father was diagnosed with nasopharyngeal cancer in November 2016 and passed away in June 2017.

SCS had assisted the family with welfare aid between November 2016 to June 2017, and continues to assist Justin under the SCS Help the Children and Youth Programme (HCYP) Home Tuition Programme since 2017 till date. Justin is also a recipient of the SCS 2019 Good Progress Award for his academic improvements.

During the COVID-19 circuit breaker period, SCS also loaned a desktop to Justin, so that he can continue to study and learn from home when schools switched to homebased online learning and classes. Many students, especially those from the lower-income groups, face difficulties in acquiring adequate resources to access online learning from their homes. With SCS’ assistance, he could carry on with his school education and also continue receiving tuition from SCS' assigned tutor under our one-to-one Home Tuition Programme virtually.

Have a story to share?

It is our belief that no one should fight cancer alone, and we are looking to collect stories from people who have been impacted by cancer, whether as a caregiver, patient, survivor, or family member. Share with us about yourself, and send us your story of how you have been personally impacted, your personal thoughts and experiences in this journey. Were there any quotes or people that inspired you?

We would love to hear your story which we can help to encourage others who are also in this journey.
